Happy New Year!

Message from Superintendent Brynelson

As we welcome the new year, we are excited to look back on calendar year 2025. Because the school year stretches across two calendar years, the highlights you are about to see capture achievements from parts of two academic years. Together, they tell the story of students growing and learning, families partnering with us, and a community that shows up for one another.

We are proud and grateful to share this snapshot of all we accomplished together in 2025!

Learning, Growth, and Readiness
Our nearly 15,000 students spent 178 days learning, growing, and connecting with teachers and staff.

The district offered 50 approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses aligned to high-demand careers.

By taking more than 1,250 Advanced Placement (AP) exams, high school students earned college credit worth thousands in future tuition savings and achieved the highest number of scores of 3 or higher in district history.

We welcomed nearly 1,000 new kindergarten students and celebrated the graduation of more than 1,000 students who left our schools career- and college-ready.

Whole-Child Experiences
More than 3,000 students participated in school athletics, supporting wellness and academic success, with access to dozens of athletic teams, clubs, and extracurricular opportunities across all grade levels.

More than 13,000 students engaged in music, arts, and theater, fostering creativity, collaboration, and student voice.

Care, Belonging, and Well-Being
Nearly 2 million free meals were served, ensuring students were fueled and ready to learn.

Bus drivers traveled nearly 1.3 million miles to safely transport students to and from school and activities.

Community Connection
More than 3,000 registered volunteers supported learning across our schools.

Community groups spent 20,000 hours hosting events and activities in our school buildings, which served as community hubs for learning, connection, and enrichment beyond the school day.

A Community Rich in Languages and Cultures
Families and students in our district speak 116 languages, reflecting a diverse and welcoming community.

Together, these efforts reflect a district committed to academic excellence, student well-being, and strong community partnerships. Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. We look forward to another great year ahead!

Sincerely,
Alison Brynelson, superintendent

Mukilteo School District promotes voting by February 10 for a renewal levy for learning and capital bonds for school buildings.

February 10 Election

Join the Conversation: Our Schools, Our Future

Join us for two virtual information sessions with district leaders to learn about the Feb. 10 school ballot. Approval of the renewal learning levy would sustain 300 staff members and programs like athletics, arts, and campus safety, while passage of the construction bond would fund dozens of projects to improve student safety, replace outdated building systems, and modernize decades-old schools. Bring your questions and hear directly from the leaders guiding this work. Learn more at: www.mukilteoschools.org/bondlevy2026

Honoring the Heart of Our Schools: Board Members & Student Directors

We are incredibly grateful for our Mukilteo School District School Board members!

Their dedication, hard work, and commitment to student success make a lasting difference in our schools and community. We also extend a special thank you to our student directors, who provide valuable insight and represent the voices of their schools with thoughtfulness and passion.

A heartfelt shout-out to (pictured left to right): School Board President Kyle Kennedy, Vice President Jon Gahagan, and members Simon Bai, Charles Hauck, and Karl Hausmann (our newest member); Superintendent Alison Brynelson; and our 2025–26 Student Directors—Summer Robinson of ACES/Big Picture, Mary Natalie Shattleroe of Kamiak, and Bintou Badjo of Mariner. Your leadership inspires us all!

If you would like to share your thanks with the Board, you can email them at SchoolBoard@mukilteo.wednet.edu

The Board holds two regular meetings per month (with some exceptions) at the District Office—6 p.m. during the school year and 4:30 p.m. in the summer. Meetings are open to the public and streamed live on YouTube. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 13, at 6 p.m.

Mathematics Fun and Games!

Yesterday, after the final bell rang and students headed home, our teachers were not done learning just yet.

More than 40 elementary teachers and specialists came together for a high-energy, hands-on math workshop that felt more like game night than professional development.

Teachers rolled up their sleeves to design custom math board games—collecting materials, swapping ideas, and building each game piece by piece.

The room buzzed with laughter, creativity, and a little friendly competition as teachers tested their games, shared “aha!” moments, and imagined how these playful tools will spark deeper math thinking for students in their classrooms in the days to come!
